Legendary baritone Thomas Hampson and his son-in-law, acclaimed bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni, bring their family ties to the stage in “No Tenors Allowed,” a gala concert event.
This spectacular programme features highlights of the operatic repertoire, greatest hits from Broadway musicals, and timeless classical and popular songs. Since 2010 Hampson and Pisaroni have brought their signature artistry – and senses of humor – to enthusiastic audiences across the globe.
They perform a selection of arias and duets including “Cheti, cheti immantinente” (Don Pasquale) and “Eh via buffone” (Don Giovanni), as well as classics like “Some Enchanted Evening” from Rodgers and Hammerstein and Cole Porter’s “Night and Day.” High c’s are left at the door for this not-to-be-missed showcase of the duo’s rich, sonorous voices.
Thomas Hampson, America’s foremost baritone, has received international honors for his artistry and cultural leadership. Lauded as a Metropolitan Opera Guild “Met Mastersinger” and inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Gramophone’s “Hall of Fame,” Hampson is one our time’s most innovative musicians. With a repertoire of over 80 roles, his discography comprises more than 170 albums, including nominations and winners of the Grammy Award, Edison Award, and Grand Prix du Disque. He received was appointed the New York Philharmonic’s first Artist-in- Residence; honored with a Living Legend Award by the Library of Congress; and has received the Concertgebouw Prize.
Hampson is an honorary professor of the University of Heidelberg, and holds honorary doctorates from Manhattan School of Music, the New England Conservatory, Whitworth College, and San Francisco Conservatory, and is an honorary member of London’s Royal Academy of Music. He carries the titles of Kammersänger of the Wiener Staatsoper and Commandeur dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of the Republic of France, and was awarded the Austrian Medal of Honor in Arts and Sciences, and the Hugo Wolf Medal.
Thomas Hampson enjoys a singular career as an artist and “ambassador of song” through The Hampsong Foundation, maintaining an active interest in research, education, outreach, and technology. He is the Artistic Director of the Heidelberg Lied Academy, and collaborates with the Barenboim-Said Academy. His master classes are a continuing online resource for the Manhattan School of Music, Medici.tv, and The Hampsong Foundation channels.
Italian bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni has established himself as one of the most charismatic and versatile singers performing today. Since his debut at age 26 with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Salzburg Festival, led by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Pisaroni has continued to bring his compelling artistry to the world’s leading opera houses, concert halls, and festivals.
Luca Pisaroni begins the 2019/20 season with a return to the Wiener Staatsoper to star as the Four Villains in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann. He then sings the title role of Mozart’s Don Giovanni in a concert staging with the Sinfonieorchester Basel at the George Enescu Festival and Pizarro in Beethoven’s Fidelio with the Orchestre Métropolitain under Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Pisaroni returns to the Metropolitan Opera for two productions this season: Le Nozze di Figaro (Figaro) and Così fan tutte (Guglielmo), marking the first revival of Phelim McDermott’s popular staging inspired by Coney Island. He closes out the season starring in multiple productions of Don Giovanni, beginning at the Palais Garnier as the title role with the Opéra National de Paris, singing Leporello at the Bayerische Staatsoper, and concluding with the title role at Opernhaus Zürich.
Pisaroni’s 2019/20 concert appearances include Mozart’s Requiem with the Orchester Wiener Akademie, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with NHK Symphony Orchestra and a concert with I Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala at Zaryadye Hall in Moscow. In recital, Luca will appear at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence, at The Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, and at UBC Opera in Vancouver for their “Singer Behind the Song” series. Pisaroni reunites with baritone Thomas Hampson for their acclaimed “No Tenors Allowed” concert series in Provo, Utah, and then at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
